First Photo

This is the first photo I took using my newly bought Canon IXUS 860IS. I snapped the shop where I bought this camera. See the quality good or not?
I make a simple comparison. The photo below I took using the digicam.
This one I took using my Sony Ericsson handphone.
Can you see the different? The one taken with the digital camera is much sharper, clearer and the color is more real, isn't it?

Please say yes la... please... I spent quite a lot on this leh... let me feel worth it for spending the money.. please!

;p

A New Camera

I have dream this for quite a long time. A digital camera for myself! All these while I kept thinking and considering what brand and model should I purchase. After some researches on the Internet and my own observation, finally I make up my mind to get a Canon IXUS 860IS.

For me, it is kind of expensive. It costs me RM999 plus a screen protector, just a thin layer of plastic that stick of the 3" LCD screen costs RM8 but after bargain RM6. However I like some of its features such as the large 3 inches LCD screen and 28mm wide lens which allows you to cover wider area when taking photo. Here I some of the key features:
  • 8.0 Megapixel.
  • Canon 3.8x optical zoom lens with Optical Image Stabilizer.
  • 28mm wide lens.
  • Huge 3.0 inch PureColor LCD screen.
  • Super fast DiG!C III Imaging Processor with ISO 1600.
  • Face Detect technology with Auto Focus, Auto Exposure and Red-eye correction.
Come along with the camera in the box:
  • Canon battery pack NB-5L 1.27V 1120mAh (Li-ion)
  • Battery charger CB-2LXE
  • 32MB SD memory card
  • Interface Cable IFC-400PCU to connect the camera to computer USB port
  • AV Cable AVC-DC300
  • Wrist Strap WS-DC2
  • Canon Digital Camera Solution Disk
  • User Guides
  • Warranty Card (1 year warranty)
Apart from these standard items come with the camera, Canon also given away some gifts upon purchasing, such as a Canon digital camera case and Canon Ximplify software (I still don't know what the software for).
As promotion, the shop itself also given away a 2GB Toshiba SD card and RM100 coupon for photo printing.
One thing I am not satisfy with the discount coupon is this term and condition:

"Satu kupon sahaja boleh digunakan untuk pencucian harga gambar lebih daripada RM25.00"

The sentence is a bit confusing, but I think I know what it means. Initially I thought I can print the photo for free worth RM100! Cheh!! Actually, I can only use one coupon of RM5 discount for every RM25 I spent in photo printing at the shop.

Here is the warranty cert and bill issued to me. I hope it's worth it.
Now I owned a digital camera. So I hope that I can have more quality photos for all of you!

Another Rescue Mission

First of all, thanks for all for giving me suggestions and opinions about my hard drive problem. I had tried almost all the method to rescue the hard drive. But till this moment of writing, all the methods couldn't work out.

Last night I tried again. Firstly, I tried to delete the C partition which content my windows files using Windows XP CD setup routine. As you can see from the picture above I pressed "D" in order to delete the selected partition.
Then I pressed "Enter" to prepare for partition deletion followed by "L" to confirm delete. But sadly to show that this is what I get.It said the partition cannot be deleted. Ok done. I can't do anything with that message, can I? So, I proceed with the next method, that was repair the Windows with Recovery Console.
In the Recovery Console, first of all, I tried to check disk. This is one solution I found on the Internet. Well, it can't do much but at least I want to know what happened to my hard disk.
HAHA!! I think by looking at the image above, you knew already what happened! The check disk stopped at 41% and telling me that my drive contains unrecoverable problems!! So, now what else? Ok, a colleague told me maybe I should fix my Master Boot Record (MBR). I wanted to try. But how? I googling it and found the command. So, I just tried.
I didn't continue because I am worried maybe I will lose all my data in the hard drive if I continue to create a new MBR. But it doesn't mean that I won't try. I will, but maybe this is my last choice. Then, suddenly came to my mind, I can try to format the drive with this command console.Everything looked good when I did the formating. The formatting progress shown from 1% slowly to 100% completed as shown. I was quite excited. I thought finally I successfully did something on the hard drive. I thought I had formatted it! Yes!

So what I do next? The drive was formatted, so next step have to be install a new copy of Windows XP into the drive! So I followed the Windows XP installation routine which lead me to choose the action to install the Windows XP. And this is what I got:Aduh!!! Same old message la!! The drive not being formatted at all! My rescue mission failed again!! After that, I just switched off the notebook and prepared to sleep!

Face The Fact

Well.. I think I just have to face the fact. I had try my best, tried different ways, asked for various opinion, but I still failed to cure my notebook hard drive that seems to be corrupted yesterday.

Last night, a friend of mine sent me a small utility for hard disk recovery. I used the utility to create a boot disk or emergency disk, burnt it to a CD, then tried to boot my notebook with it. At first it looked good, my system booted up and execute the disk recovery utility on the CD. However, when it just about to start the recovery routine, an alert message popup saying that it couldn't access my hard drive because doing so will cause serious date corruption. So it asked me not the continue and quit. I got no choice so I just quited from it. My hope gone.

Today I tried to collect some opinions from my colleagues, as all are IT people, so I hope I can get some suggestion from them. Some told me to fix the master boot record (MBR) as the error message I shown to them is something related to MBR. However, how to fix the MBR is a big question.

There were also some suggested to format the drive. I think all their suggestion make sense. So just now I tried again, boot up with Windows XP CD then instead of choosing reinstall windows I chose to delete my C partition. I don't care anymore although I realized that will erase all my data in drive C. I don't have much data in that drive. Most are program files. What I am more concern is another partition which I stored quite a number of data in there. If I can access to the hard drive, then I can copy the data out.

But thing not going that smoothly. The windows setup screen show me a message saying "Your selected partition cannot be deleted". I worried about this already and it really happened. Can't even format my drive! Why cannot delete the partition? I just want to delete everything in it also cannot? Then what else can I do?

Maybe that gave me a message that I should face the fact that my hard drive is crashed totally and there is no more turning back beside losing all the data in it? I don't know, but I have to prepare for the worst!

Notebook Crash?

I felt so upset tonight as my notebook suddenly crashed. When I just started it, it's still ok, booting up, then Windows XP loaded successfully. Then suddenly it went blue screen and restarted. I thought this is nothing as it always happened. My notebook having this problem for quite some time already.

Then after the restart, just few minutes after that, it went blue screen once again! But this time the only thing different with the blue screen problem I faced before is that it didn't restart the system. It stayed static on the blue screen page displaying some very technical errors which is too hard for me to understand. I just managed to copy one of the text in the error. "KERNEL_STACK_INPAGE_ERROR". What is that? I also don't know. Maybe I should googling for it later.

So, I have to restart my notebook manually. This time, windows cannot be loaded anymore. The system will keep restarting when come to the Windows XP loading screen. I knew I am facing big problem.

So I took out my hard drive from the notebook (this is the first time I open the slot and take out the hard drive) then installed it to my external casing and trying to detect it with my pc. I just wish that the drives can be detected so that I can copy some data in it to my pc. But my pc failed to detect it and some error popup saying something like window file corruption.

So I put the hard drive back to my notebook and this time, i try to repair my windows using a Windows XP cd. I was thinking, the worst case, I just format the partition. So, I followed the instruction as in the installation disc. If I can repair or reinstall my windows, meaning I can save my notebook.

But too bad, the luck is not with me. Just before the installation start, this message displayed on my screen.
"An error occurred while Setup was updating partition information on:"
"38155MB Disk 0 at Id 0 on bus 0 on atapi [MBR]."
"Setup cannot continue. To quit Setup, Press F3."
Gosh! I can't even reinstall or repair my windows!! So what else can I do? If can't access to windows, then you can't do anything! I can't even access the windows through safe mode! What else can I do then? I suspect it's either my RAM or my hard drive problem!

Can somebody help me? I am totally out of idea what to do! Now my brain is blank. I don't know how to save my notebook this time. Maybe I can spend some money to buy a new hard drive or RAM, but that not necessary solve my problem. Oh ya, I just found out that my RAM is built-in!! But got a spare slot for an extra RAM.

I am totally out of mood tonight. I just don't know what to do. Just hope that I can find the solution as soon as possible to save my notebook!

Google Olympic Logo

I am not sure if you did notice that Google had created a series of Olympic Logo during the 16 days of the Olympic season. I downloaded the whole set because I think it's very meaningful and is kind of cute. There are 17 of them, everyday one kind from the opening ceremony day till the closing. The artist used the 12 animals in chinese zodiac to represent the Chinese culture as the Olympic was held in Beijing, China. Just in case you don't know what these 12 animals are, they are rat, cow, tiget, rabbit, dragon, snake, horse, goat, monkey, rooster, dog and pig.

Oh ya.. I just found out, the artist is a Korean. His name is Dennis Hwang (Hwang Jung-moak), a 23-year-old computer artist.

Here they are:

This one is on opening ceremony, 08/08/2008
See the 5 cuttie "Fu Wa" Olympic mascots are marching carrying Olympic torch and flag.

This is on the second day, 09/08/2008Wow.. you are cool with sun-glasses Mr Goat! You look professional!

The third day, 10/08/2008
Are you kidding me? A rat doing weightlifting? I would believe if it's an elephant. But elephant is not among the 12 chinese zodiac animals, so just a rat will be fine. Elephants are scared of rats, so we can assume that the rats are stronger than elephants. Maybe that's why rat is chosen for this sports?

The 4th day, 11/08/2008
It's cute, isn't it? A piggy doing platform diving. See how concentrate he is? The somersault is good but I am doubt about the entry...

The 5th day, 12/08/2008
Mr Cow, opss.. sorry, should be Miss Cow because rythmic gymnastics is only for female. Well, Miss Cow did a great job in controling the ribbon. She made an "O" for the word Google. So I guess she can score good points.

The 6th day, 13/08/2008Mr Monkey on rings in artistic gymnastic. That's too easy for you Mr Monkey.

The 7th, 14/08/2008Rat playing basketball with dragon! Dragon is doing slam dunk. I don't think the rat can reach him to block the ball.

The 8th, 15/08/2008Tiger is strong and fast. So I guess he can play badminton well.

The 9th, 16/08/2008
The horse kicks the soccer ball into the goal trying to score and snake is the goalkeeper? I just can't imagine how the snake can catch that ball. So, this must be a goal for the horse team.

The 10th, 17/08/2008
Doggies are doing rowing. Row, row, row your boat, gently down the stream. Merrily, merrily, merrily, chasing olympic dream!

On the 11th day, 18/08/2008
Chinese always dominate PingPong sport. Chinese usually call themselves as "Heirs of Dragon"(龙的传人). I think that's the reason why dragon was chosen to represent this sport.

On the 12th day, 19/08/2008
Snakes are naturally good swimmer. See how far he left his opponent behind?

On the 13th, 20/08/2008
Track and field. Do you think rabbit can run as far as horse? But rabbit is good in jumping. Maybe he can win the long jump or high jump event.

14th day, 21/08/2008
See, I told you, rabbit is good in jumping. Mr rabbit is pole vaulting without using a pole! How amazing!

15th day, 22/08/2008The rooster is playing baseball. He's the pitcher, the person who throws the ball to the catcher.

16th day, 1 days remaining to closing ceremony, 23/08/2008Martial Arts. Mr Tiger fighting with Mr Monkey. It reminds you about Kungfu Panda?

On the closing ceremony day, 24/08/2008
This one is so nice. Every one win a medal. The 12 animals in chinese zodiac are all here. All are smiling, happy and enjoying the game. What a happy ending.

Beijing Olympics Come To An End

Beijing Olympics is come to an end tonight after 16 days of exciting competition. The closing ceremony will be started very soon.

In my personal opinion, China had done a very good job in organizing the 29th Olympic games. Besides that, they had beaten United State of America to become the overall champion by collecting 51 gold, 21 silver and 28 bronze medals. USA is at number 2 with 36 golds, 38 silvers and 36 bronzes followed by The Federation of Russia with 23 golds, 21 silvers and 28 bronzes.

Our country, Malaysia is at 71st position with a single silver medal won by Lee Chong Wei.

PositionMedal Standings Gold Silver Bronze Total
1 Republic of China 51 21 28 100
2 United State of America 36 38 36 110
3 The Federation of Russia 23 21 28 72
4 Great Britian 19 13 15 47
5 Germany 16 10 15 41
......
71 Malaysia 0 1 0 1

The 30th Olympic games will be held in London, Great Britain.

Let us wait and see how the closing ceremony will be.

Beijing Olympics Theme Song

Who are these people? Did you find some familiar faces there except the 4 "Fu Wa", the Beijing Olympics mascots down there?

Well, they are actually the singers that involved in one of the Beijing Olympics theme song named "北京欢迎你" (Beijing Welcome You). It's a very nice song to listen. The singers are from Republic of China itself, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Mongolia and one from Korea. I guess it is not too hard to find which one is from Korea, the only one. She is a very famous actress from Korea, Jang Na-ra.

Other well-known singers or entertainers are like Jackie Chan and his son, Wang Li Hong, Emil Chow, Richie Ren, Jolin Tsai, Gigi Leong, Eason Chan, Jay Jay, Ah Du, Joey Rong, Stefanie Sun, Karen Mok, 5566 and so on.

Did you know who is the small girl at the most left-top corner of the image above? She is the one that sang the song "茉莉花" (mo li hua), a very well-known chinese song while carrying a chinese lantern in the closing ceremony of 2004 Athens Olympics. Her name is 陈天佳 Chen Tian Jia. Fuel Price Reduction - Not Related With The By-Election

This is quoted from Bernama's official website titled "Govt Will Stick To Its Plan On Oil Prices, Says Abdullah".
PUTRAJAYA, Aug 11 (Bernama) -- The government will stick to its plan to announce the new petrol pump price on Sept 1 despite the current declining trend of world crude oil prices, said Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi Monday.

"We will go on with what has been announced and promised,"...

This is reported in Bernama's official website titled "Petrol And Diesel Price To Drop Saturday".
PUTRAJAYA, Aug 22 (Bernama) -- The petrol and diesel price will drop by between eight sen and 22 sen respectively Saturday.

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi announced Friday that the Cabinet had decided that the price of RON97 petrol be reduced by 15 sen to RM2.55 a litre from RM2.70, while RON92 would cost 22 sen less at RM2.40 a litre from RM2.62 a litre.

The retail price of diesel would drop by eight sen to RM2.50 a litre, he said in a statement.

Oh ya! Before PM made this statement, this is what our Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs Minister, Datuk Shahrir Abdul Samad told the press:
"The ceiling price of petrol will remain at RM2.70 a litre until year-end"
"ceiling price would be reviewed after Dec 31 depending on the current global fuel price at year-end"

Read the full report here by Bernama.

That reminded me about few months ago, somewhere in June when Datuk Shahrir told the world that Malaysia fuel price will not hike till August but almost immediately after that his boss refuted his statement by announcing the price increase.

For Datuk Shahrir, this feeling is just like being slapped hardly on the cheeks by his boss. When price hike announcement, slapped on the left and when price reduction, slapped on the right. Can you feel how painful that is? Well, maybe you can't but I am sure Datuk Shahrir will.

I was also attracted by another statement made by our PM, "Fuel Price Reduction Has Nothing To Do With Permatang Pauh By-election - PM" in Bernama official website.
BACHOK, Aug 23 (Bernama) -- Prime Minister Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi denied allegations that the reduction in the prices of petrol and diesel announced by the government Friday was linked to the Permatang Pauh by-election.

"It has nothing to do with it. It is for all the people of Malaysia not just for Permatang Pauh. Each time I meet reporters I keep getting asked when the prices will be reduced, now I have done it. And now still more questions.

Well, fuel price reduction of course is a good news but I just don't understand why before this PM stated the government will only announce it on Sept 1 but 11 days after that statement, on 22nd of August PM announced the petrol pump price reduction. Maybe by then Permatang Pauh by-election is over? It is just too hard for me not to relate the whole thing with the by-election.

Here is the summary of the fuel price reduction effective on 23rd August 2008.

Fuel CategoryOld Price(RM)New Price(RM)Drop(RM)
RON97 Petrol2.702.550.50
RON92 Petrol2.622.400.22
Diesel2.582.500.08

Usain Bolt

Usain Bolt. I think before Beijing Olympic, not much people know about what this term mean. For a scientist, he/she may think maybe it's a new kind of lightning just discovered by some great scientist at the other part of the world?
New kind of lightning bolt found by a scientist named Usain is called Usain Bolt?

Or for an engineer, he/she may feel it might be some newly invented screw bolt?

Is this the bolt called Usain Bolt?

Well, I can tell you the above statements are wrong! In this Beijing Olympic, we witnessed what Usain Bolt is! He's actually the fastest man on earth in this decade.

Usain Bolt, a 21 years old Jamaican sprinter had break the 100m world record with 9.69 seconds in Beijing Olympic without a favourable wind (+0.0 m/s). He's the first person on the earth who can run 100m under 9.70 seconds. Before this, he's actually the 100m world record holder with 9.72 seconds which he made in Reebok Grand Prix earlier this year.

Just now Usain Bolt - the fastest man on earth had proved to the world that why he deserved to be called so. He won his second gold medal in Beijing Olympic by winning 200m with the record breaking result of 19.30 seconds. This is not only the 2nd gold, but also the 2nd world record for him in short distance running. 200m world record is previously hold by Michael Johnson of USA 19.32 seconds in 1996 Atlanta Olympics.

This is Usain Bolt, the 100m and 200m world records holder and currently the fastest man on earth.

He's the 2nd sprinter after Carl Lewis of USA who won the double gold medals in 100m and 200m events in a single Olympics game. Carl Lewis did it in 1984 Los Angeles Olympics.

No Olympic Gold Medal for Malaysia

I think just now the whole focus of Malaysian was on the Beijing Olympic badminton man's single final where our country's best man single player Lee Chong Wei, who is also the world number 2 player currently was playing against current world no.1, Lin Dan from China, the home team.
[Lin Dan]

Most of us are expect for a close fight between the two top badminton players in the world in this decade. However, out of our expectation when we saw Chong Wei was beaten by Lin Dan in straight set, 12-21 and 8-21! Yes, this is the final result of the badminton man's single final Beijing Olympic 2008! Believe your eyes although it's not easy to believe. Still can't believe it? Then just slap yourself on the cheek, either side or both. If you feel the pain, then you are not dreaming.

Can you feel the difference between Chong Wei before and on the final? Before the final, on the group and elimination stage, Chong Wei looked calm and confident. He got no pressure on his face, so he played very well and beat his opponents almost in straight set except in the semi-final, he needed rubber set to beat Lee Hyun-Il from South Korea. Tonight, on the final, I am not sure if you did realize, Chong Wei's face expression was different. He looked nervous, lack of confident and pressure. I know I am not a fortune teller who can see through a person's mind by his look, but trust me I could really see Chong Wei's worry on his face.

[Lee Chong Wei]

I think he's worry because he realized Lin Dan is his strongest opponent who is hard to be beaten. History shows that Lin Dan has better winning record when both met in tournaments. Psychologically, it lower down Chong Wei's confident level when facing Lin Dan. Then, Lin Dan had home court advantage where thousands of China supporters were cheering and shouting for him! In the other hand, Chong Wei was carrying thousands of Malaysian's hope to get the first ever Olympic gold medal for the country. These direct or indirectly had bring a lot of pressure and burden on Chong Wei's shoulder.

Being a world class badminton player, the above are all excuses. A professional player should have stronger mindset. That's why, psychology and mental of our athletes need to be strengthen further to face all kind of situation in big tournaments such as Olympic. They needs to be brain washed that they are the best and on top of the world. I think this is the biggest challenge Malaysia needs to get over before can win the first ever gold medal in Olympic games.

Anyway, we all know that Chong Wei had try his best. We can see his efforts, his spirit and desire to attempt for the gold medal. So, well-done, Chong Wei! We are proud of you! You did a great job. It's not the color of medal but your fighting spirit and dedication that make Malaysian proud!

Anything Special about 16th day of August in 2008?

Actually, nothing special about today, 16th August 2008... it's just a normal Saturday, a normal weekend, nothing to special about.

However, there are few things that we can mentioned about this day. For Sabah and Sarawak, 16th of August means exactly one month to go before the anniversary of Malaysia Federation establishment. Sabah & Sarawak joined Malaya to form the Federation of Malaysia on 16th September 1963. That's why 16th days of September is named Hari Malaysia (Malaysia day).

I thought we are talking about today, 16th August and not about the day after one month right? So, back to the topic, 16th August. Today is the 8th day of Beijing Olympic after its opening ceremony on 8th of August 2008. Today we witnessed Michael Phelps, a swimmer from USA had tied the record of most gold medal won in a single olympic games (7 medals) previously hold by Mark Spitz, also a simmer from the same country in 1972. Tomorrow we may see another new record being created if Michael Phelps manages to win his 8th gold medal.

Oh ya, 16th August is also the 8th day this blog was created, the 8th day of my blogging life.

16th August is also the nomination day of Permatang Pauh by-election where we will see the three-way fight between Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim the de facto leader from Parti Keadilan Rakyat(PKR), Seberang Jaya assemblyman Datuk Arif Shah Omar Shah from UMNO and the UMNO-based vote disturber Hanafi Hamat, Angkatan Keadilan Insan Malaysia (Akim) president (ape tu?). The by-election will be held on 26th of August.

Among all the happening on 16th August, I think the most excited one is today I received the RM625 subsidy from the government. This is the first time in my life so far that get the cash from the government. Although it's not a big amount which can really lighten my life burden, but please tell me who is not happy when receiving money? Not to say RM625, if you let me win RM200 lottery consolation prize, I will be jumping up and down to express my excitement already. Honestly, RM625 can't do much nowadays especially when the inflation is so serious in the country. But it's better than none, don't you feel so? We always have chance to pay money to the government and rare chance to receive money from them. That explain why I said it's the most excited happening on 16th August 2008!

Here are the 4 simple steps how to get government's money:

1. Fill in the form and take a queuing number.

2. Have a sit and wait for your turn. Please go early, otherwise you have to be seated for hours!

3. When the queuing machine calling your number, go to the counter, give your I.C. and form to the officer and chop your finger print.
4. There goes the government money! It's yours!!
