Sibu BASE Jump 2009 @ Wisma Sanyan

B.A.S.E is an acronym for building, antennas, spans (bridges) and earth (cliff) and BASE jumping is actually refer to an activity that employs an initially packed parachute to jump from these fixed objects.

Sibu BASE Jump 2009 is the first ever BASE jumping event held in Sibu town. The venue for this BASE jumping with no doubt is the tallest building in Sarawak at the moment - Wisma Sanyan which consists of 27-storey or 126 meters height.

The event was started at around 8.30am this morning. As usual, some local politicians just have to show their faces before the event starts, including Assistant Minister of Youth Affairs and Tourism, YB Tuan Haji Hamden, Vincent Goh and also Awang Bemee.

It was the first time I saw human jump down from such a high structure with my own eyes. The feeling was heart-beating and full of excitement. I really admired and impressed with the jumpers' courage and skills.

The jumpers jumped from the rooftop of Wisma Sanyan building, then after about a second later, they will release the parachute.

The parachute will open in a split second...

... then the jumpers will glide in the air while navigate the parachute...

... to ensure that they won't fly too far away from the intended landing point which was Sibu Town Square.

When the jumpers approaching the ground, they will pull the navigator to slow down the speed so that they can land softly and safely.

The whole process from jumping from the rooftop of Wisma Sanyan, to open parachute then gliding in the air and touching down only took around 15 seconds.

It was certainly a great experience watching such extreme game live! In the coming write up I will share the photos about the jumpers who came all the way from different western countries just to take part in this BASE jumping event in Sibu.

For the time being, just enjoy some photos on the actions of BASE jumping taken by me this morning.

A Story From Mars II - An Invalid Return!

In the last episode of Ga-lien's adventure, Ga-lien was disappointed with the human and decided to get out from the earth with his spaceship with very sad heart yet still wishing them the best. The story continue...

Ga-lien was on his way back to the planet of Mars to meet with his respectful master - The Fal-lien. The Fal-lien is the one behind the whole drama. It was the one that educate Ga-lien to be what it is right now. It is also the only one who care for Ga-lien the most. Whenever Ga-lien facing problem in his life, Fal-lien is the one he turned to for advices whereas whenever Fal-lien needs help, Ga-lien is the one he seeks for help. Because trusting each other, Ga-lien will never question about the demands made by Fal-lien because he was pretty sure that Fal-lien will always think the best for him.

Ga-lien couldn't wait to see Fal-lien after 1 year left the planet of Mars to share his experience on earth. Ga-lien had a good spaceship navigation skills (well, at least he claimed himself is), he sped up the spaceship hopefully can reach the planet as soon as possible. He kept sounding the space-horn towards those low performance spaceships who he accused driving slow and blocked his way towards the Mars!

However, something unexpected happened! Ga-lien suddenly felt that his spaceship loses its momentum to go foward no matter how hard he stepped on the throttle. 5 seconds after that, both left and right engine suddenly halted! The lights and the electronic systems inside the spaceship totally offline! He could see nothing but the dark in front of him.

Ga-lien was panic! The anti-gravity system couldn't function. His spaceship now is free fall back to the earth! Ga-lien tried to cool himself down and think what went wrong. He realized that the only reason that may cause engine halt is the lack of fuel. Perhaps it was a miscalculation by Ga-lien himself where the volume of fuel needed to fly from earth to Mars was calculated base on RON97 usage but the fuel injected into the spaceship was RON95. RON95 caused fuel combusts prematurely and produced "knocking" on engine which increased the fuel consumption.

It was human's fault! They were using the non-standard fuel which caused the miscalculation!! Otherwise Ga-lien will never count it wrongly.

Ga-lien had no other choice. His spaceship broke through the atmosphere and finally reach the earth. He was back to a place he already used to! "Maybe this is my destiny", Ga-lien thought. It was a destiny to be the savior again!

He understand it will be a very hard mission, but for Ga-lien, that doesn't matter. What matter now was he got the sign from the ancestor to accomplish this mission. He don't mind to be hurt again as long as he could help the evil human.

He stepped out from the spaceship, in his hands was a piece of cheese that had changed the way he looked at the life entirely!

Now, Ga-lien's mission back to the planet of Mars was officially invalided! The time for his landing on Mars Aerospace Center already overdue! He couldn't go back now even with his spaceship fully pumped with RON97. He just have to wait until the next valid date which will be scheduled in the future.

For the time being, Ga-lien will just have to stay on earth and continue his human-saving legend! This is the last chance he gave to human. If they still don't want to change, Ga-lien promised that he will leave the earth for good!

Ga-lien is back!!!

The Ambience @ Cafe Cafe Sibu

As I promised, in this post I will just share about the ambience in Cafe Cafe Sibu which I rated it as a more "luxury" choices of eating establishment in Sibu.

The cafe is located at a very old shop house but the owners managed to decorate and use the space nicely while preserved some of the traditional building structure.

The ambient lighting makes the place look dim, but gives the feel of soft, relax and romantic. It is a good place to have date with the love one, but sometimes the place is a bit noisy especially when it was crowded with patrons.

Connected to the upper floor is a wooden staircase. The white candles decorating the red wall along the staircase is very unique and outstanding.

There is a space with long table which can accommodate a group of around 16 people at a time to have dinner. It is an ideal space for a big family or friends gathering.

The monotone feather pictures hanging on the wall look simple, but it certainly produces some contrast effect to the big red wall and makes it more colorful and presentable.
As I mentioned before some of the original old shop structure are preserved and decorated nicely to give the classical feel to the customers.

Well, I would conclude that it is a romantic yet affordable place to have dinner with its great surrounding and environment. But don't be too surprised when half way you express your love to the love one, you hear somebody shouting and singing happy birthday song which may spoil your mood and the whole ambience! ^^

Here is the full address of the cafe if you wish to pay it a visit:

Cafe Cafe
No. 10, Jalan Chew Geok Lin,

Dinner @ Cafe Cafe Sibu

Just had a good dinner with some friends at Cafe Cafe tonight. I personally feel that this is a more "luxury" choice to have meals where the foods here are more "pricey" yet they are comparably reasonable with some other newly established cafe around Sibu.

The place has a very nice ambience where I will reveal in the coming write up. For this time, I will just concentrate on the foods we had.

This is what I ordered. The Oriental Grilled Chicken served with potato wedges and fresh vege in gravy sauce.

It tastes good with the flesh texture still soft and easy to chew but the taste itself didn't give me too much surprise. I more impressed with the potato wedges served with its rind. You won't have the feel of the rind when biting them.

The size of the grilled chicken was a bit too small. I still remember in my last visit to this cafe which is around a year ago, the size of the chop was much bigger than this. Well, maybe this is the impact of economy recession where the price remained but the portion deducted?!!

No wonder one of the friend was complaining to have Kampua Mee after this dinner la! This grilled chicken chop costs RM18.00.

For drink, i ordered watermelon juice which is my favourite among fresh fruit juices. It is just an ordinary glass size of juice costs RM8.

The following food was not ordered by me but other friend. It is called Fish & Chips which is deep fried breaded fillet of fish served with French fries, side salad and Tartar sauce. This set costs RM19.00.

Oh ya! It is stated clearly in the menu, ordering western cuisine such as chicken chop, fish & chips or lamb chop required minimum waiting time of 30 minutes. So, if you are in a rush, make sure you don't order these foods or you will walk out the shop with all kind of "dirty words"!

We also had some side orders. Deep fried cuttlefish which is very crunchy...

... and also lady's fingers fried with spicy sambal!

p/s: I would like to apologize if you feel uncomfortable with the quality of photos as my camera really can't snap good photos in the dark ambience.

Banks Are Blood Suckers!

Why I said so?

Today on lunch time, I went to a bank with "tiger head" which I used to deal with all these while to buy demand draft/banker cheque to pay my monthly study loan installment. This is not the first, but the 10th time I bought the demand draft from the same bank.

As usual, I completed the routine procedure by filling up the form, took my turn then when my number was called, I attended to the counter to buy the bank draft. There I met a very impolite staff. With her sour face, she asked me "if the RM5 charges deduct from this account?"

I thought I heard it wrongly. I thought she said they will deduct some commission from my account for issuing the banker cheque. Just to clarify, I replied "Huh?". Then with her unsmiling face, she told me one more time "If you wanna deduct RM5 charges from this account?"

I was shocked and couldn't believe my ears. I told her "RM5? This is not the first time I buy bank draft from your bank. Last time they only charge 50 cents for commission, why now got RM5 charges?". With very unfriendly attitude, she replied "This is a normal charges".

"Why before these there weren't such charges?", I started to feel a bit impatient. Then the girl replied me in this way, "Before these we forgot to charge. You still wanna buy?"

With that kind of bad attitude and also the illogical answer given, I was really pissed off and just told her "No! I don't want to buy anymore. Banks are cheaters!!"

That's the reason why I said banks are blood suckers! They use our hard earned money to make profit, they suppose to provide the clients with some services in return.

But in the real world that is not the case! Banks charged unreasonably on various services given to the clients! Do you think RM5 for issuing just a banker cheque sounds reasonable?!! I certainly not feel so and it is just ridiculous!!

Furthermore do you think the staff at the bank were really that dumb and forget to charge RM5 for 9 times in a row and only remembered at the 10th time?! If that is the case, then I would suggest the bank to reconsider their staff quality and perhaps it is time to hire smarter batch of staff!!

This incident certainly spoiled my mood for the entire day!!

A Pretty Flower

When I flipped through my photo collection just now, I discovered this flower which is very nice looking and wish to share with all of you.

I am not sure the name of the flower, perhaps if you know, just let me know. It was the flower I saw at my friend aunt's house during my visit to Kuching on July this year.

4 Days Without Internet!

Just get back my Internet connection!! It had been 4 days since last Thursday (08/10/2009) my Internet line was down! Some problem occurred on ISP side and I had called at least 5 times to the customer care center to report and complain my problem.

Being asked to do lengthy and time-wasting troubleshooting as usual. But I cannot blame those people as they need to ensure the problem is caused by ISP instead of customer's carelessness.

Called again on second day when the line still down. The customer support personnel told me my report was not submitted to technical division as too many similar reports were logged. It was because line at my area got problem and the technicians were busy solving this problem. I guess she means this is not an individual case but is a common area's problem. So all Streamyx subscribers within the area would get affected.

I accepted that so just wait for miracle. Friday gone without Internet. My mood was down to the earth! Saturday noon the problem still remain. I called to make sure ISP still working on it. I knew my problem wasn't normal. I was having the same problem one month ago and it took TM 3 days to solve the problem.

It proved my thought was correct when I called again on Saturday night to check on the report status and the customer support told me the area problem was solved. My problem still remain! The person entertained my call told me my report is just a "complain report" and not a "technician report". I was a bit mad by raising up my voice but I still tried to control my own emotion.

After moving my brain, I think I understand why this happened. It was because my report was not treated as a separate case, that's why it was not submitted to the technician to take further action. As the area problem was solved, the technicians assumed that my problem had been solved as well.

Luckily the person answering my call was nice enough. He said what he could help me now is to send my report directly to the technician without asking me for further silly troubleshooting. I really appreciate that.

It came to Sunday morning. I called again to see if any action taken. I didn't put high hope as normally technicians are not working on weekend. The person told me the problem is because of some cables at my area were damaged and the technicians were changing the new cables. I felt more relief, well at least they were working on it.

I didn't have high hope but just keep my fingers crossed. Throughout the day I tried to connect from time to time but my trials just returned disappointing results. Until around 7.00pm just now, when I switched on the modem just for the sake of testing, surprisingly the line was ok and I was able to browse the Internet again!

Thanks God! It had been 4 days this time I was suffering without the Internet!! Although the line doesn't appeared to be stable, but at least I can access to various websites and blogging now. Hope my problem is totally solved and the line will remain healthy! Finger cross...

The Beauty of Pagoda Under The Eyes of Tanglung

Just want to share some photographs I took at Sibu Tua Pek Kong Temple area during this lantern festival. I am neither a professional photographer nor using a professional camera. What I have is just a IXUS 860IS compact camera and I took photo for fun.

Tua Pek Kong Temple and the seven-storey pagoda is one of the landmark of Sibu town. If you ever travel to Sibu using Sungai Rejang, the longest river in Malaysia, probably this building will be the one that caught your eyes from far. When you see the seven-storey pagoda beside the Rejang river, no doubt, you are approaching Sibu!

The scenery at this temple initially is attractive. Colorful lanterns decorating the compound during the lantern festival made the place look even gorgeous! That's why I couldn't help myself from shooting photos here.

I visited this place few times during the festival and everytime I was here, I felt reluctant to leave, not because there were a lot of "leng loi" around, but it was the color of scenery that kept me there to shot photos repeatedly even from the same angles.

Here are some photos I took which I titled it as "The Beauty of Pagoda Under The Eyes of Tanglung". Although they are not professional shots, but I felt satisfied with my own piece of works. Hope you like the photos too.

The following photo is not edited using Adobe Photoshop or any other graphic editing application, but was originally taking from my camera which I set its color to sepia effect. I just discovered such function inside my camera after more than a year I bought it. I love the effect as it gave the feel of nostalgia.
