Tan Hua Fu Procession On Chap Goh Meh

It was a very eventful Chap Goh Meh in Sibu where "Tan Hua Fu" (探花府) temple organized a Chap Goh Meh procession to gain peacefulness and prosperity to the society.

Crowd were gathered on the street to witness this event. I was there as well after a simple Chap Goh Meh reunion dinner with my family. I don't have much elaboration about the event but I will leave you with the photos I shot on the night. Hope you enjoy it and Happy Chap Goh Meh to Just Sharing readers!!

Prime Minister's Visit @ Sibu Central Market

It was a big day for some Sibu people today! Yeah! Our Prime Minister (PM) Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak made his second visit to this town and this time the venue of his choice to make the ka-boom appearance at the public is Sibu Central Market!

I was there during office's lunch hour. I always try hard to find some interesting coverage to paint my blog and I guess this is a good chance since PM's visiting is not a frequent happening.

PM had been scheduled to arrive at the market area at around 11.45am. Thus, the crowd started to flood the entrance much earlier than that. Lion dance team, Malay kompang team and Iban cultural team were standby at the entrance to welcome the Prime Minister and I guess it was a way to show to the Prime Minister the spirit of 1 Malaysia in Sibu.

VIPs were there as well waiting for the arrival of the Premier. The one I saw including Sibu Municipal Council (SMC) chairman Tiong Thai King and his deputy Daneil Ngieng. Policemen were seen everywhere patrolling the market compound. I was wondering if normal days they can be seen patrolling like this, the crime rate for sure can be cut down further.

After a long wait, at around 1pm, finally I could hear the siren of police traffic's car approaching which also indicates the arrival of the Premier. Surprisingly, his car stopped 3-feet away from the entrance. I didn't notice when PM stepped out from the car but the first thing he did after stepped out is to shake hands with the crowd standing at opposite side of the road.

PM then walked slowly towards the entrance of the market and I successfully snapped a photo of him. That's the time I get closest to the Premier but it was just a split second.

VVIPs such as Sarawak Chief Minister Pehin Seri Taib Mahmmud, his deputy George Chan and Alfred Jabu were also here, but their existence at this timing were seriously ignored by the crowd when the center of attraction was all on the white-shirt Prime Minister.

I tried to find a better position inside the market to get a better shot on the Premier, but I failed. I am not sure why, seems like my camera was too nervous and the shutter always slow a second when I clicked on it to snap at Prime Minister.

Surprisingly I was able to shake hand with the Chief Minister, his deputy Alfred Jabu and Sibu Tutong State Assemblyman Sun because they were seriously left behind! ;p

I could see some selfish photographers even climbed onto the table owned by some hawker at central market just to get a best shot for their own benefits. I personally felt this is a very irresponsible act.

It was a very short visit by the Premier and it was just about 15 - 20 minutes when PM walked from one end of the market to another before leaving the place. I just wondering if he really got chance to communicate with the hawkers to know about their difficulties or just a Ka-boom appearance for the coming state election.

Anyway, PM's short visit definitely cheered up the day and I believe it will leave little impact on the coming state election.

PM left the place at about 1.20pm and headed to a well-known hotel to enjoy his lunch in another occasion.

I personally sacrifice my lunch and the lunch time just to get the best photos for Just Sharing readers. I am not sure if it was worthy but what I am sure is that my passion towards blogging is still burning and do keep visit back my blog from time to time!

First Day of CNY @ Tua Pek Kong Temple

It's the first day of Chinese New Year. I went to the Tua Pek Kong temple in the morning to experience the situation at the temple. I was quite surprised. Although Sibu is a place dominated by Christians, but people visiting the temple was far more than what I expected.

Could see the believers were carrying different size of incenses and prayed from the bottom of the heart hoping this new year will bring more fortune and health to themselves and also for their family members.

I leave you with the photos I took from the temple this morning and wishing all of you a very Happy and Prosperous Chinese New Year!!!

A 2010 New Year Party @ Le Ark Cafe & Gallery

It was company's Chinese New Year Party held at The Ark Cafe Gallery last Saturday. All staff and their spouses had been invited to the annual event of the company which maybe appeared to be the annual dinner as well.

The event started at around 7pm. The weather was good although there was some rain earlier. The Ark Cafe is a 2-storey building sitting beside the Rejang River. The space is actually limited to accommodate more than 200 participants at a time, therefore the organizing committee had extend it to the space in front of the premises and that's where the main stage had been placed.

The foods had been spread all over the cafe, with the 2 section at upper stair serving main dishes and its downstair is where you can find self-service salad stuff and also rojak. At a corner outside the premises was where on-cook BBQ satays, chicken wings and fish could be found.

The DJ of the night was the sensational company's event manager which I personally love to call him the "daigo" (I think he did look like a big brother). Who else if it is not Mr Eddy who is really expert in event hosting and deejaying. His sense of humor and ability to control the crowd had cheered up the event, yet I think the unresponsive crowd had made the night a bit dull.

Well, maybe they were not unresponsive, but they were shy. For some reason, most of them prefered to stand 10 feet away from the main stage. This is one of the weakness of most Asian where they are too shy to express out their feelings. They might feel excited towards the event yet they rather keep quiet just to avoid being labeled as an "alien".

Some very simple games and performance had been arranged for the event, including the magic show by company's all time amateur magician Mr Liong. I personally felt that magic is not just about making thing disappeared while the spectators still scratching their head on what had just happened, but it is about how the magician interact with the audience to let them know clearly what will happen next, then applying some tricks to make that happened mysteriously.

This magic show certainly lack of the interaction element, but Mr Liong's efforts to entertain the crowd and cheer up the night was something which is undeniable and certainly worth some applause and compliment.

Simple games arranged include drinking red wine with straw competition, mandarin orange eating competition,  seek & win game and lucky draws. 3 respective best dressed ladies and gentlemen had been chosen to receive prizes, but I was a bit doubt if some of the "winner" deserved it.

Long service award also being given out to the staff working in the company for more than a decade.

The foods arrangement was a bit disappointed where we need to go upstairs and down repeatedly in case we forgot to get ourselves a glass, spoon, fork or even tissue papers.

The foods served were some simple dishes such as "The 4 kings of all foods" - fried rice, fried kueh tiaw, fried noodles and fried beehun, prawns, limited deep fried chicken wings, mixed vege, fish, steak, otak-otak, self-service salad, rojak and some desserts. There were also on-the-cook BBQ chicken wings and satays, but as you know, those are "limited edition"(TM) and people just fighting hard to get them!

The event finished at around 9.30pm. I personally felt that it was a little disappointed night, the participation, the arrangement of foods and the programs still have much room of improvement.

Anyway, credit and appreciation should be given to the organizing committee for their time and efforts to make this annual (hopefully) event  a success! At least there is a platform for the colleagues to meet each others in a different presentation instead of daily office attire.

Most importantly, it was the only consolation for our hard work throughout a year when there was no hope of bonus has being seen.
